⨂ Larvae - European Stag Beetle, (Lucanus akbesianus)
Common name - European Stag Beetle
Scientific name - Lucanus cervus akbesianus
The listing is for 1x beetle larva, of the largest species of Stag Beetle in Europe and Western Asia that has many different morphs according to the different, country-specific subspecies. This akbesianus subspecies hails from Turkey, and is the second largest subspecies of Lucanus cervus after judaicus.
These are CAPTIVE BRED in my collection, with this stock originating from Turkey in Asia.
Like many members of the rhino/stag beetle families, the males of this species possess large horns/mandibles used in wrestling matches with rival males, while females lack these structures. The adult beetles feed on a variety of fruits such as banana, apple, pear, peach and watermelon. The larvae feed on decaying wood.
